Over the past 11 years at ETS, Tanner has held a range of leadership roles spanning business strategy and research — including positions within the ETS Research Institute, Language Learning and Assessment Business, and the Office of the CEO. Across each role, his mission has remained clear: to unlock human potential by closing opportunity gaps and opening doors for all. His work has fueled initiatives ranging from inspiring STEAM career exploration and advancing global student mobility to equipping employers with the data and insights they need to drive talent growth. A respected voice on AI, durable skills, and skill measurement, Tanner is a sought-after speaker at top industry forums, including the SHRM Talent Annual Conference, Zoom Educator Summit, and ASU+GSV and has been featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education and Education Week as a subject matter expert. Tanner holds a PhD in Cognitive Science from the University of Memphis, with expertise in business strategy, skill measurement, interactive learning environments, game design, natural language processing, and adaptive conversations.
