Dr. Anthony C. Nelson serves as Dean of the School of Business at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). He previously served as Dean at Grambling State and Bowie State Universities. While serving as Dean at Bowie State University, Dr. Nelson received proclamations from the Prince George’s County Council, the City of Bowie, and a citation from the Maryland General Assembly for advancing public-private partnerships that supported business incubation and entrepreneurship. He served as the university liaison in launching the Bowie Business Innovation Center and led the creation of the university’s Entrepreneurship Academy, now the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center.
At NCCU, Dr. Nelson has helped secure over $11 million in grants and contributions from organizations such as Blackstone, PNC Bank, Fidelity, Lowe’s, Truist Bank, and the Kauffman Foundation. He is leading major initiatives including the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, (CEED), the Peggy Ward Financial Education Center, and the MBA Commercial Real Estate Program.
Throughout his career, he has developed innovative academic and co-curricular programs in entrepreneurship, wealth management, real estate, cybersecurity, and data analytics. He has served on numerous boards, including the Bowie Business Innovation Center and the Center for International Business Education and Research at the University of Maryland. He currently serves on the Durham Workforce Development Board.
Dr. Nelson is a two-time President of the HBCU Business Deans Roundtable, chairs the AACSB Diversity and Affinity Group and serves on the Southern Business Administration Association Board and the NC Council on Economic Education Advisory Board.
