ANA Voices Opposition to Washington SB 5814
April 24, 2025 (Washington D.C.) – The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) today released the following statement from ANA EVP Christopher Oswald following the Washington State Legislature's passage of SB 5814.
"Washington businesses and consumers cannot afford a risky, expensive, and dangerous new ad tax as they struggle with rising tariffs, federal benefit cuts, and global economic uncertainty. This proposed ad tax would directly impact thousands of Washington businesses who are already struggling to navigate higher costs, broken supply chains, and cautious consumers, while also driving up prices for their customers."
"That's why more than a hundred similar ad tax proposals have been considered and roundly rejected around the country over the last half century, as elected officials realize those taxes cause more harm than good. We urge the Governor to reject this ill-advised tax grab, so the Legislature can develop more fiscally-responsible revenue options that protect the state's businesses and consumers from its destabilizing, expensive, and damaging effects."
