Update on State and Federal Junk Fee Laws

Between the FTC’s Rule, which was finalized in December, and several new state laws going into effect this year, there are a host of new requirements regulating fees in consumer transactions. And while the FTC’s Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees is limited to live-event ticketing and short-term lodging sellers, many state laws more broadly apply to sales of consumer goods and services. In this presentation, we’ll cover what you need to know about new laws restricting added fees, discuss best options for compliance, and highlight the potential risk from class action plaintiffs and regulators.
